Why hello everybody!
Wow, another week has passed! So much has happened in this past week it is insane! I have to make a list of all the very exciting things that happened in the past week so I can remember to tell you everything! This week started very soon after I sent my email last week! Last P-day me and the other blue in my apartment had to go to a building for legality. So we can stay in Belgium, and all that good stuff.
And our water heater was supposed to be being fixed last Monday sometime between 8 and 5, so the old missionaries decided they would stay at the apartment while us two newbies ventured out on our own to find this legality building! Let me just say that it was quite the adventure! We made it to the right metro stop alright, but we couldn't find the building! We really wandered for about 40 minutes, just searching! Then we realized we had actually been walking around the building the whole time and that it was the one huge building in the square..but for our defense, it was under construction so we didn't think that that would be it! Now we are officially legal, and in a few weeks we have to go to apply for our Belgian drivers licence! Pretty cool stuff!
After legality, we went shopping! It is tradition in the mission for trainers and blues to buy what they call Father-son ties for zone conference. As an apartment, we all decided to get matching ties! We couldn't find any stores that had cheap ties, so we got one that was really nice, but was pretty expensive, unfortunately. It may have been because we were shopping at the touristy shops..(the ones that me, Mom, and Kira, walked by like..every day last summer!)
Now I guess that you are all wondering how this weeks subject plays into everything..I'll start with the black magic. So we were walking home one evening, about 845, and there is this black guy walking towards us. Elder Anderson decides to contact him. And lets just say it was very interesting! He starts telling us about black magic is from the devil, and how he used to do black magic, but has turned his life around. He said that he now has a third spiritual seeing eye. He said that he could tell that we were good guys, and that we always had the holy ghost with us. He said it was like we had an umbilical cord (even the word he used) coming out the back of our neck that was attached to the holy ghost. So we took that as a compliment.
Then a lady walked by, and he just kinda shouted at her, "Do you pray? Cause you have to pray!" Then him and the lady went off in some weird language that neither of us could discern. It was a super weird experience. But also really funny. He also told us that he could see an angel over one of our shoulders, and a devil over the other. He said that they were both trying to influence the people that we talked to. He said the angel was writing down everything good we were doing while the devil was influencing the people to reject us. Haha, I just laughed that one off and kept wondering if that actually happened!
Zone conference was on Tuesday, just at our church..So I never went to Paris this past week..did someone tell you that I went to Paris? Because I didn't. Zone conference was good. But it was all in French! So I was concentrating very hard the whole time to try and understand all that was going on, but it was difficult, because I still don't understand everything! Then after zone conference I was on an exchange. I didn't go anywhere, but I had our zone leader Elder J as my companion for the next 24 hours.
So that night we went porting. It was fun, no really exciting stories there. But the exciting story happened the next morning! So we had our usual 3 hours of studying. We had just finished, when all of a sudden our doorbell rang! I had never even heard our doorbell, let alone even know we had a doorbell! So Elder J picked the phone thing up to talk to whoever was at the door..and it turns out we got a package! So we went down and got the package..and it was for me! Let me just say, I am pretty sure you nailed every single one of my favorite candies and snacks! It was an amazing surprise! Thank you all for contributing! I loved it!
We had a couple of other really cool stories and people we met this week..I think that it is about time that I start writing those. First I will tell you about Jean D'amour. In English his name is John of Love. How cool is that? Anyways, he is a really chill, really cool African guy whom we have been trying to meet for about since I got here. Anyway, that was all about him. I just thought he was really cool, and had a cool name.
The next story is where genocide comes in. Does everyone remember the war in Rwanda where the mass genocides were happening? Well we met a guy named Jean-Marie from Rwanda. He came from Rwanda to Belgium in the 90s, because he escaped from the war! When he was telling us his story, I was just amazed! Just the way he said, "I escaped from my country" was very inspiring. We had a good rendez-vous with him and set up another for this week. I really hope that he stays interested!
Now I thought that this next story was funny, well its not really a story, but what a couple of our investigators have said. A few have asked us if we are married, and told us about the importance of marriage. First off, I thought, we know the importance of marriage! Its part of the message that we want to share! And the second thought that comes is I am a missionary! I cant get married! Then the last thought was, I am only a 19 year old kid! ;) I am just too young to get married! But its nice of them to be so concerned about our well-being!
Ah, moving on. So at church this week we had the opportunity to teach primary! I hadn't been in primary in so long I had forgotten just how fun it was! We taught about honesty, and got to tell a pretty great story. (Primary was in English) And today, the reason that I am writing a little bit later in the day is because today we got to take a tour of NATO! I found out that basically everyone in our ward works for NATO. We left right after cleaning up and met up with a guy in our ward who gave a short tour of NATO and then we ate lunch there! It was pretty cool! It was too bad, because we weren't allowed to take any pictures or anything because of all the governments secret info and stuff I guess. Anyway, I think that is all the exciting stuff that went down this week!
Thank you all very much for your emails! I miss and love you all! Until next week!
Love,
Elder Hamilton
